Owner
I have no previous experiences! I began working at Pemberton Market under the guidance of my father in 1965, and I am the current owner. Growing my business has given me the opportunity to serve my community and connect with our customers. Nothing makes me happier than knowing that someone had a positive experience with our staff, or was excited to find a specialty product. I equally appreciate the diversity, creativity and seasonality of our different departments, and I am driven by the endless possibilities we can present our customers. During my free time, I am with my wife Denna, our three dogs and four children. I enjoy the gym, spending time on the water boating, tennis, ballroom dancing, sunshine and being thankful for every day!
Owner
In February 2007, I joined Pemberton Marketplace alongside my husband Tom, his father Leo, and brother Mark. I have aimed to provide a fresh perspective and revamp our family business by expanding marketing, event planning, local products and customer service. While also enhancing our fresh deli, catering and breakfast menus. I developed my passion and standards for quality service through an extensive career in the corporate world, beginning at the Ritz Carlton Buckhead Atlanta’s food and beverage division. Next, I managed cosmetics, women’s shoes and jewelry for several years at Dayton Hudson Marshall Fields, and headed to Ralph Lauren and Lancôme as a co-op account manager. I eventually moved to New York, where I ran two different districts for Victoria's Secret Beauty. My final adventure as a district manager for Ethan Allen brought me to Boston, where I ran six stores and the warehouse. In my free time, I enjoy being with my family and friends, playing tennis, ballroom dancing with my husband, tending to our chickens and three dogs, cooking, gardening, boating and fishing.
Garden Center Manager
Growing up in this family business has provided me with a lifetime of joy and wonderful experiences. From the early days of working as a child along side my father Leo to the days in college, to today, Pemberton has been my second home. Much has changed during that time yet much is the same. Relationships, customer service, selection and quality remain the key to a successful business. A simple rule I have lived by is try to treat others as I would like to be treated. Now in my 25th year of being here full time; the love, passion and commitment for what I do remains the same and it now gives me great joy to watch our children, the 4th generation, join in the business like we did with our dad a long time ago.
Operations Manager
I am a member of the 4th generation of Pemberton Farms and literally grew up in the business. I started stocking shelves and ringing the registers at a young age and continued to work in all departments of the store through high school. I studied consumer science at the University of Alabama which helped shape my passion for retail. From there I moved to Boulder, CO and worked for the grocery chain Sprouts Farmers Market, holding numerous positions including store manager for 2 years. I have been full time at Pemberton since May 2018 and am currently the stores General Manager. In my free time, you can find me with my partner Jamie and our dog Maurice either hiking, camping, skiing or spending time with friends and family.
Assistant to the General Manager
I am a 4th generation member of Pemberton Farms that joined the family business in the midst of the pandemic. In March 2020, I began personal shopping in between my Zoom classes as a Special Education Teacher and full time over the summer. I loved working alongside my family members and ultimately decided that my heart was fully invested in Pemberton Farms. I’m currently busy learning new aspects of the business every day! In my free time, you can find me relaxing at home, cooking, walking around the Middlesex Fells and playing with my adorable and mischievous dog Tater.
Assistant General Manager
I began my Pemberton Farms journey working alongside my Uncle Mark and my Grandfather Leo during the busy Holiday months. Since then, I have worked in many departments throughout the store. As a fourth generation member of the Pemberton Family I hope to grow the business to new heights, and continue the great work our Family has done in the Cambridge community.
Beer Manager
My name is Scott Kendall and I am the Beer/Spirits buyer for Pemberton Farms. I have been working here since December of 1981. I enjoy interacting with customers and sourcing new products for the store. In my free time I love spending time with family and friends, as well as watching sports!
Wine Manager
I'm Jon Kruger, the Wine Manager. I graduated from The George Washington University with a BA in Psychology and with minors in Philosophy and Sociology. After spending a few years living in San Francisco I returned home to Cambridge.
I found my passion for wine as the Wine Buyer down the street in Porter Square and continued as Wine Buyer and General Manager at several stores in the Boston area. I have refocused my love of wine here at Pemberton and look forward to helping you find the perfect wine for any occasion.
Outside of work I watch a lot of movies and listen to various film related podcasts. You will often find me on the dance floor, genre doesn't matter as long as it's live. I follow all local sports with Celtics being my main love, but with the success of all our teams there is more than enough love to go around.
Garden Center Manager
I joined my family at Pemberton Farms in the spring of 2021 as a manager in the garden center alongside my uncle, Mark. The garden center has been a great place to expand my plant knowledge and share my passion for horticulture with our customers. Prior to working at Pemberton, I held many botany related jobs across the west coast, from growing native plants in Oregon to researching habitats of Bighorn Sheep in Idaho. In my free time you can find me outside playing with my dog, Semper.
Produce Manager
Hi there! I came to Pemberton Farms for the love of the store and stayed for the opportunity to contribute to this soul filling shopping experience. As Produce Manager, I'm passionate about bringing you a complete selection of fresh, seasonal, and competitively priced produce with a priority on organic and local selections. As a supply chain and technology professional, I am excited to use my expertise to bring the best out of this department. I'm also proud of work with our other departments, including the community and composting program, to minimize waste. My favorite part of the job is getting to know our customers and learn your needs. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm always happy to help and I hope to see you soon! Outside of the store you'll find me in nature, doing adventure sports, in the gym, reading philosophy, salsa dancing, or snuggled up around a cup of coffee.
Specialty Cheese Manager
I landed at Pemberton Farms after a decade learning the ropes by working my way through various specialty grocery stores in Vermont and Boston. I want our shelves to tell a unique story and speak to everyone who comes through the doors, so we celebrate slow food, local sourcing, and artisanal production while preserving accessible price points for everyday pantry staples. When I'm not "playing store," I'm probably in the Public Garden with a pulpy novel, zooming through the city on a weird old Swiss road bike, haunting the balcony at Somerville/Brattle, or singing along to the Grateful Dead.
Lead Grocery Buyer
My name is Gwen and I have been working at Pemberton Farms for three years as a buyer. I have a “you are what you eat” focus on functional foods and work to fill our store with life enhancers, better beverages, energy boosting snacks, and local clean eats. I am a chocaholic, wine enthusiast, cheese monger, and runner! I have an incredible sense of trends and am able to get the into our store and on your tables quickly! Before I started working here I was a Chef at Le Cordon Bleu in Hollywood, CA and a teaching Chef at LA Foodworks.
Controller
Hello! I am Dennis Ruiz, the Controller at Pemberton Marketplace. I also help out with expanding the options for folks seeking out gluten-free, nut-free, organic, and other specialized offerings, as well as everyone’s favorite indulgence—the chocolate section. I’ve been a member of the Pemberton family since the spring of 2015, but I’ve been in the food industry for roughly 7 years, including stints at different retail stores and coffee shops around Cambridge. Since I’m a supporter of local, organic, and sustainable products, one of the best things about working at Pemberton is being able to connect and talk with our customers and learn about the food they want to eat. I’m currently in school pursuing a bachelor’s in business administration, and in my spare time I love to cook and eat different types of food, drink sprinkling (rose!) wine, enjoy time with my partner and friends, explore new places, and spoil my dog, Bean. If you see me walking around, please don’t hesitate to ask me about anything from dog food to dark chocolate, I’m here to help you!
Credit Manager
My name is Arlene Farber and I am the Credit Manager for Pemberton Farms. I started working part-time in the Gift Basket department in December of 1993, answering phones and processing the Christmas gift basket orders. My responsibilities grew and changed over time, as did the store and now 30+ years later, I’m still here, working with the Saidnawey Family. In my spare time I enjoy lake living, needlepoint, walking and spending time with my grandchildren.
Meat and Seafood Manager
My name is Seabert and I have been working at Pemberton Farms since 1999. I began as the produce manager and am currently the meat and seafood manager, which allows me to engage with all out customers which I love to do. I’ve been working in food retail for over 20 years. I started working at the meat department in a local supermarket in Cambridge and then I moved to the Harvest Food Coop, where I held the position of meat manager for ten years. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my friends and spending time with my wife and kids.
Gift Basket Manager
My name is Deneb Luangoudom and I began working for Pemberton Farms at the start of 2021 in the Gift Division. My work background includes over 15 years in a corporate environment as operations support. In my free time I like to be active in all kinds of sports and activities. Traveling, cycling, hiking, bowling, and volleyball are just some of the things I love to do.
One of my proudest moment is when I completed a solo bike ride across America, from Boston to Santa Monica in 2020. The journey took 75 days, crossing 12 states, and exactly 3,333 miles. I biked through all sorts of weather conditions and terrains. I met so many wonderful people along the way. It was the most amazing experience I have ever had. I am the on the go type of person who loves an adventure and believe that an active life is a happy life. A body in motion will stay in motion.
