2013 Montenidoli Vernaccia di San Gimignano Tradizionale, Tuscany, Italy $11.99 (Reg: $14.99): The perfect fall white wine. What does that even mean? Well, the colder weather demands something with a little more muscle and weight as does the heartier food being cooked this time of year. Montenidoli’s vernaccia is held on it’s skins for a longer time than most whites and the result is a deep golden color. The wine is medium weight with a round, lush mouth feel. Flavors of almond, and baked red apple predominate. It has a clean, salty finish that keeps you going back. This is a perfect pair for fall dishes containing squash & pumpkin. Organic.
2014 Massiac “Sentinelle” Minervois, Languedoc, France $11.19 (Reg: $13.99): A rustic little wine coming from the south of France made of 2/3 Syrah and 1/3 Carignan. The emphasis is on the fruit here and what I get is a lot of soft blueberry, a tinge of something dark like licorice and a pretty floral finish like lavender. This is a medium bodied fresh style meant for easy drinking. A fantastic value for weekday drinking. Organic.
2014 Tire Pe Diem Bordeaux, France $11.99 (Reg: $14.99) 80% merlot, 10% cabernet franc, 10% cabernet sauvignon. Pours a velvety dark purple color. The wine is beautifully textured with tannic presence but no harshness. Youthful and fruit forward tending more towards the purple fruit like blackberry and black plums. Has that nice touch of cedar and earth from the cabernet franc. Organic.
