Always delicious and at a nice price, here are the wines we’re featuring for October:
Wine by Joe
Pinot Gris, Oregon
In 2002, Joe Dobbes started Wines by Joe for friends, family, and neighbors to come together and enjoy a bottle, a meal, and conversation. They make wine that everyone can enjoy – nothing snobby, just enjoyable, easy drinking wines. They really want to showcase the best that Oregon has to offer and their pinot gris is proof of their passion and success. Always delicious, never pretentious, it’s approachable yet rich and complex. With notes of fresh apples, pear, and lemon zest, this medium bodied white has the perfect mix of crisp acidity and ripe sweet fruit.

Para maria rose
Named for one of the most dedicated people on the vineyard, Maria Solozano is always running around the vineyard, checking the vines and leading employees by example. She runs the hardest working team in the business and with her at the helm, the vineyard is growing some of the best grapes in California. This rose is a vacation in a bottle. Every sip is overflowing with zesty pineapple, ripe mango, and fresh cherries. This is the second vintage of this rose and it is already a classic.

The Black Dog
Cabernet Sauvignon, California
The Black Dog of Martha’s Vineyard teamed up with Boston Winery in Dorchester to make this easy approachable wine. The partnership is a perfect match as they both strive to have all-natural wines without sulfites or preservatives and they are both dedicated to giving back to the Earth. Both of them are all about having fun and not taking themselves too seriously. The grapes for this cabernet are shipped in from Alexander Valley and all the winemaking is done in Boston. This is a full-bodied, yet well-balanced cabernet sauvignon. With, flavors of ripe plum and wild cherry, with hints of new French oak and black tea tannin, melded with a round earthy finish, this is the ideal fall wine.
Reg. $15.99 Wine of the Month $13.99
With its dusty fruits, delightful spice, and balanced tannins, this Rioja is the perfect fall wine. When I was in Spain last month, I saw this wine everywhere and for good reason. I bought a half bottle at Duty Free to drink on the flight home. Faustino is one the most important wineries in Rioja. On their fourth generation, the winery has over 150 years of history. They are able to keep old-school traditions while still using modern techniques. The wine has intense, sweet and spicy notes that are balanced by elegant dark fruits, forgiving tannins, and a finish that just keeps you wanting more. This is my favorite of the Wines of the Month.
