Featuring these great wines this month:
La Purisima Blanco ’15 (Regularly $15.99, Sale Price $13.99)
This full bodied Spanish white comes from a small cooperative in Yelca (South Eastern Spain). The blend is 70% Macabeo (a Cava grape) and 30% Sauvignon Blanc. The nose is bright and aromatic, reminiscent of grass and flowers. The mouthfeel is rich and textured, with layers of minerals and earthy tones. Aged for a few months in French barriques, this adds roundness and a slight toast to the wine.
Primarius Pinot Gris ’15 (Regularly $17.99, Sale Price $14.99)
Pinot Gris is one of those grapes most people don’t get excited about. Often times you see overly produced, watered down versions coming from Italy. This wine however is the exception to the rule and really blew me away from the first sip. The palate is crisp and mid-weight, with an almost honey like quality. Flavors of ripe pear, fresh apples, and white flowers are present immediately. Tons of bang for your buck here.
Lone Birch Rose ‘15 (Regularly $13.99, Sale Price $11.99)
This rose from Washington State is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Sangiovese. On the full bodied side and fruit forward, I get all red fruits here: strawberries, watermelon, and raspberries. Despite all the fruit, there is an underlying mineral and earthy quality. This rose is super refreshing and crushable on a hot day in August.
