2012 Manoir de la Tête Rouge, Saumur, Loire Valley, France $11.99 (Reg: $14.99): 100% Cabernet Franc. Crystal clear ruby in the glass and light to medium bodied. The grapes clearly got perfectly ripe here as the wine is fresh and fruit forward (red raspberry) without any of the bell pepper that can plague these wines. It has that characteristic Cab Franc earthiness too which I find addicting. I chill this right down in the fridge and drink it on a hot day. Pure and mouthwatering. Organic, bio-dynamic, very low sulfites.
2014 Simboli “La Vis” Pinot Grigio, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy $8.79 (Reg: $10.99): Cheap pinot grigio causes a lot of eye rolling among the wine nerd crowd. I don’t have to tell you that they are usually watery, basic, unremarkable…the wine equivalent of Bud Light. My eyes stopped mid-roll on this one when I tasted it though. It’s got depth! and texture! and taste! There isn’t much to say here other than this is the best $9(ish) bottle of pinot grigio you’ll ever find.
